Statistics Canada is the national statistical office. The agency ensures Canadians have the key information on Canada’s economy, society and environment required to function effectively as citizens and decision-makers.

Intro

Data literacy is no longer only relevant to specialists. Instead, data literacy is a core competency required across any workplace. The public sector is no different. Future-focused public servants must develop data analysis and communication skills to inform government decision-making and storytelling.

Guided by experts from Statistics Canada, this course empowers public servants—like you—with the knowledge and tools to understand, interpret, and communicate data relevant to your role. Over the next eight weeks, you’ll learn the four steps of the data journey: how to gather, explore, analyse, and communicate data. The entire data journey is built upon a foundation of key statistical concepts, such as quality assurance, data stewardship, data standards and metadata, all of which you’ll cover in the course.
